Since
graduating from law school in 1988, Andrew has practiced law in
both the private and public sectors and has been a high ranking
executive at one of the nations largest education corporations.
In 1988, Andrew joined the law firm of Riker, Danzig, Scherer,
Hyland & Perretti as an associate, where he specialized in
large-scale commercial litigation matters involving lender liability,
loan workout, professional liability and reinsurance coverage.
In
1990, Andrew joined the New York County District Attorneys
Office where he served for three years in the Trial Division and
tried a substantial number of cases involving such serious crimes
as the sale of narcotics, attempted murder, and kidnapping. In
1993, Andrew was promoted to the Labor Racketeering Unit where
he directed teams of law enforcement officers in the investigation
and prosecution of criminal activity and corruption in industries
reliant upon organized labor. During that assignment he became
the lead prosecutor in high profile prosecutions that involved
the presidents of two of the most influential unions in New York
City. Andrew received several commendations for his work from
law enforcement agencies and the District Attorneys office.
In
1996, Andrew was appointed the Inspector General of the Battery
Park City Authority, the state public benefit corporation charged
with the management and development of some of the most important
real estate in lower Manhattan. As Inspector General, Andrew developed
and refined risk management processes that are still employed
by the Authority to evaluate contracts and protect the Authority
from corruption, waste, fraud and abuse.
In
1998, Andrew joined Kaplan, Inc., the for profit education subsidiary
of the Washington Post Company. Andrew started at Kaplan as a
regional General Manager and in 1999 was made the Vice President
of Operations for Kaplan Inc.s online higher education division.
In addition to performing a key role in the formation of the new
division, Andrew spearheaded the divisions regulatory and
compliance activities and also focused upon licensing and accreditation
matters.
